What is elfKW?

Sometimes we are asked, what elfKW means. 11kW maybe? KW, this abbreviation, so often heard, so rare understood. Ok, the technician knows what it's all about, with kW this is about Power and Energy. So 11kW? ElfKW means a lot of things at the same time, from german "ElektroLeichtFahrzeuge (plus the Initials of the founders), same as 11kW, this is where sustainable transport ends for us, at latest (well, apart from public transport, maybe).

So what is elfKW for?

This company, this website have been created for people who have had enough of driving cars. Peopls who are ready to satisfy their mobility needs with a a smile on their face, so that future generations will look at us with a smile at us, too, and say something like "well done". Sometimes we call this sustainability.

We have a lot to offer for everyday-bicycle drivers and little for people, who only want to do sports with bicycles. Why? Simply because we think there are offers enough for people who want to do sports. If you are just looking for this, look elsewhere, you will not be too glad with us here.

About the smile of elfKW-Cyclists

Sometimes, when peopls come to our place, to do some trial riding on an ebike, they do not succeed in finding the throttle in the first place. In this case they drive the first round with a strenuous glance in their eyes, as cyclers sometimes do. But then, when they finally find the magic lever, with which they can get this silent-gliding support from the motor, you notice it at once: You can see their smile, the smile that is so typical for ebikers.

Which people are typically coming to us?

Apart from our friends, fiancees, and kids, who have started to love to drive with that certain smile, there is an old man of nearly 90 years coming to our shop in one of the first days, who wants an electric bicycle for his long trips to the invironments of the capital, and after only a week he starts protocolling his journeys with a energy-meter.

"I have been to so many sporting shops" he says, "but this is the first time that I feel good".

And the mother of 2 children, who has sold her car and motorbike, to bring her kids to school on her own way to work with a longtail ebike: "When we had a car, she says, they did everything to let time go by" she says, "now they sit at breakfast and ask me when we will start, finally. My life, our lifes have changed."

Where does the journey lead to?

Every journey starts with the first step (chinese). Well, the first step is done, and right now we do not even now, where it will lead us to. At the moment, it looks very much as if we are facing the difficult decision, whether we will want to grow, because demand has risen enourmously during the last weeks.

About Politics

Apart from the fact, that everything we do is political, we have to face the (political) question: What do we want, after all? how can we support politics and what do we want from her, on the other hand?

xx Der erste Teil der Frage ist leicht zu beantworten: Wir unterstützen die Politik, indem wir in der verfahrenen Situation der jetzigen Mobilität eine praktikable Lösung vorschlagen: Lassen wir einfach von unseren so geliebten fossilen Fahrzeugen 1-2 Räder weg, und unterstützen wir sie mit der Energieform, die so vielfältig erzeugbar ist, aber unter anderem auch nachhaltig, und die Sache verliert an Schrecken: Statt über 100g oder 150g CO2/km zu feilschen, sind wir unter 10g/km, also praktisch Fussgängerniveau, und damit für alle kommenden Klimaprotokolle gerüstet, bis ins Jahr 2050.

Und was macht die Politik für uns?

Wenn ich mir heute in der schönen Stadt, in der ich lebe, die Situation der RadfahrerInnen anschaue, die sich seit 30 Jahren nicht wesentlich verbessert hat, die vielen Radfahrer, die mittlerweile praktisch nur noch auf Gehsteigen unterwegs sind, entweder weil dort irgendwelche absurden Linien aufgemalt wurden, oder weil sie einfach Angst haben, auf der Fahrbahn unterwegs zu sein, wo die SUVs jedes Jahr schwerer, und der Autoverkehr jedes Jahr ein bisschen gehetzter wird, denke ich, die message, dass das alles so nicht weitergehen kann und sollte, ist in der Politik noch nicht angekommen.

Und wenn ich dann in unserem Nachbarland, bei einer bekannten Radfahrer-Veranstaltung so durch die Stadt fahre, und mir auf jeder Ecke Velomobile, Liegeräder, Lastenfahrräder, Rikscha-artige Spezialkonstruktionen mit und ohne E-Motor begegnen, die so gar nicht mehr an die sonst so beliebten fossilen Stahlkarossen erinnern, denke ich, ok es hat sich doch schon auch was verändert. Nicht immer, nicht überall, aber sichtbar.

Aber zurück zur Frage, was wir wollen: Wir wollen, dass Mobilität, die heute zu 99% fossil dominiert wird, und damit nicht nur ein Ablaufdatum hat (nämlich das langsame, aber dafür umso sicherere Ende der fossilen Resourcen), sondern auch den Klimawandel in einer Weise anheizt, der früher oder später in eine Katastrophe münden würde, nachhaltig wird. Schon wieder dieses Wort. Energetisch nachhaltig, sozial nachhaltig, gesellschaftlich nachhaltig.
